Flowers in the House on a Monday

Flowers in the House....May Edition

Good Monday morning!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

I spent mine in Denver with my wonderful friend, Diana, who is back from China finally.
We ate at a great little Mexican food restaurant on Friday night (North County in Lowry) and she had a tiny dinner party on Saturday night.   I am loving home entertaining more and more...little dinners here and there. Not big production dinners but tiny dinners with a few friends. We watched the running of the Kentucky Derby while drinking Mojitos which are really Mint Juleps sans the bourbon and silver tumblers.

On the way back to the cabin on Sunday I stopped at a couple of the big box home stores and bought flowers. Hoping I got some deer resistant ones! We shall see.   Also picked up tomatoes and herbs. Between the tomatoes that are going on the deck and the potatoes in the garden, I should be able to satisfy the requirements of No. 39: Grow a Vegetable from Scratch.

So later this weekend I will have an outdoor garden update but for today, I snipped a few flowers and plopped them on the kitchen table. I'm linking up with Jane at Small but Charming for Flowers in the House, her first Monday of the month celebration of flowers, so you can visit her page and see all kinds of glorious flowers.

Enjoy:

That bunny is left over from Easter- I  figure he works just fine for Spring.
Hey look! There are flowers hanging outside the window, too!

Lantana, Grape Hyacinth, Mexican Heather and Daffs...
all from my garden.
(Or soon to be from my garden once they are planted.)

Check out the other Springtime flowers over at Small but Charming.
And check back with me later in the week for a garden update and a visit with my neighbors.

Flowers in the House,

Flowers in the House, Visitors Outside

It's another "Flowers in the House" day and I'm linking up again with Jane at Small but Charming.

Love having fresh flowers in the house and kudos to Safeway for offering daffodils at ridiculously low prices this past weekend. Daffs all over the house now. Yay!  Particularly wonderful as we are having visitors this week and nothing says "Welcome" like fresh flowers. (Well,  maybe some wine and cheese. And chocolates? Fresh baked goods?)

Anyway, flowers in the house:

 On the mantel

And on the table.
Aren't they lovely?

And outside, the garden is popping up.  This week should be in the 60s with lots of sun so I expect things to start happening outside now.

Tulips (I think?!) in a zoo.  (prison)
I really need to learn to label things.

Tulips along with allium (or agapanthus - can't remember) in another zoo.
Again. Label. Label. Label.

Carlos has been enjoying the sun on the back deck.

But the squirrels terrorize and tease him. It is so not fair.

And since I STILL have not figured this out entirely,
click "HERE" to see it if there is no video evident.

and

Again, click "HERE" if no video.

I finally had to call the poor dog in after about ten minutes because he was not giving up.

The deer stopped by to eat the pine branches that fell from the weight of Saturday's snow.

Who, me?

And the birds stopped by to see what I've put in the bird feeder.
It's interesting because one year I put food in the feeder and three months later, the food was still there.
Last year, I put bird seed in it again and had only deer eating out of it.
This year, I tried again (Hope springs eternal!) and Voilá! birds.

These Steller jays are enormous compared to our Texas bluejays.
I thought everything was bigger in Texas?

 Their blue is so iridescent.

 A little sparrow?
Need to get the bird book out.
Nope. A chickadee!

Chickadee butt

 A barn swallow?

And a male American Robin.

If we have Robins, Spring must not be far behind. Right??

Happy Monday.

Snow outside, flowers inside

Flowers in the House on a Snowy Morning

Linking up again today with Jane at Small but Charming for Flowers in the House.

I like having an excuse (I don't need much of one!) to have flowers around.

Today is an especially lovely day to have flowers inside because it is snowing outside.

The weather forecast was light snow showers turning to rain. Right now the snow is coming down in big fat wet flakes that are sticking everywhere.   Since I have 100 miles to drive to get to a doctor's appointment with Belle later today, I do hope that forecast is correct.  I don't mind driving the canyon road in rain but snow can be blinding.

But right now, inside my cozy log cabin, there are tulips on my desk.

And snowflakes outside.

Great combination.

Inside.

Outside.
(And once again, I thought I had this Video thing figured out, BUT…
if the video isn't showing up, please click here.)

Have a wonderful day.

(Computer is back up working. And it is still my dad's 91st birthday. Happy day!)

Flowers in the Clean House

Flowers in the Clean House:

Nothing to do with my 60x60 challenge but a lot to do with a bit of a challenge to myself.

Since it is January, first month of the NEW year and a time for fresh starts, I am loosely following Apartment Therapy's January Cure. I like the idea of starting off the new year with a clean house.
Fresh house, fresh start.  Nice concept.

I say loosely because I got a late start and the first couple of weeks in January I could barely function, much less clean house like I was killing snakes.   Which is how I like to clean house when I'm inspired- with gusto.

But this past weekend's challenge was to really clean the kitchen.  I didn't get to the insides of the cabinets. Or the inside of the fridge. Or the inside of the oven.
Seriously? I know this is for apartment kitchens but my kitchen is about the size of an apartment kitchen and I worked hard for hours on Saturday and only got the surfaces done.

Anyway, Sunday morning was a treat to walk into a sparkly kitchen. Made Saturday's work worthwhile.

And my favorite part of the January Cure is that every weekend you are supposed to get flowers for your  house.
In a perfect world there would be fresh cut flowers in my house every week. In Colorado I seem to do better about having flowers than in Texas. Possibly because Texas tends to stay greener, maybe because the Texas house is bigger so it takes more than one bunch of flowers to make an impact.
I don't know.

Anyway, today is also Small but Charming's Flowers in the House day where bloggers can link their flower pics with other bloggers.
And there are flowers in my house!
So, I am linking away.

If you have a minute,  check out the other bloggers and their flower arrangements.
If you feel like starting fresh, download the January Cure calendar.
If you want to make my day, leave me a comment marveling at my tiny, funky but sparkling kitchen.

(And thanks to my friend Libby for turning me on to the January Cure.
And thanks to Lisa at Privilege- one of my favorite blogs to read- for turning me on to Flowers in the House.)
